Thanks to all who joined us for Hops for Hunger, our first annual volunteer recognition and fundraiser featuring a craft beer tasting and live music by Majors Junction. The event was held at Blackberry Market, 401 N. Main Street in Glen Ellyn.
Over 100 of our volunteers and friends attended and enjoyed Blackberry's handcrafted appetizers and desserts and sipped local craft beers while celebrating a successful year for The GardenWorks Project.
In 2015, we built 40 home vegetable gardens and refreshed 18 second-year gardens in 14 communities in DuPage and east Kane Counties, extended our program offerings by building and planting fall gardens, increased our group educational events, and coordinated three gleaning (food rescue) opportunities. Our all-volunteer garden builders and coaches, board of directors, staff, donors, and community partnersmade it happen.
It was a perfect night to celebrate our 2015 accomplishments and honor our two Volunteers of the Year, Wendy Underwood and Ted Lowe. Two lucky raffle winners went home with an iPad Air and a 32” Samsung flatscreen TV.
We are already planning our 2016 event, and hope you'll be a part of it!
