This year (being only this group's 2nd year) started with great news when we found out we were awarded garden boxes from Gardenworks Project. We came into this already existing garden with no knowledge of the quality of soil and what type of vegetables had been grown (due to no information being left regarding the past of the garden). After one year of working we found that the soil needed much enriching and that root plants did not grow well as the soil was too hard.
The boxes we received were a blessing as we were able to grow carrots that actually looked like carrots and not balls of orange. We were also able to do 2 crops in some of the boxes and the goal next year is to start earlier and grow more food for the food insecure. Everyone should have healthy food choices so that they can keep healthy and keep persevering. Thank you Gardenworks Project for helping us to grow more healthy choices - like Carrots, Cauliflower, Lettuce, Cabbage, Eggplants, Tomatoes, Peppers, Squashes and Sweet Potatoes plus much more.
Thank you Paula and team for all your hard work to provide fresh produce for your hungry neighbors.
