Do you want to volunteer with The GardenWorks Project, but just don't know where you fit in? We have place for everyone, and at our Spring Kickoff Volunteer Meeting you can learn about our volunteer opportunities and sign up for garden builds and garden coaching. Then stay for our fantastic presenters who will motivate you to make the best of your garden this year:
Maximize Your Vegetable Garden Harvests
Rachel Reklau of Sweet Home Organics will discuss how to increase harvests in your vegetable garden this season by making efficient use of space and timing, a method called succession planting. She will also answer your organic vegetable and herb gardening questions.
Body Smart Gardening
Janis Hanson, DuPage County Master Gardener will teach you to protect yourself from muscle aches, strains, and injury while gardening. Body Smart involves the tools we use, clothes we wear, proper bending and lifting techniques, as well as skin care, hydration and nutrition.
Everyone who signs up for a garden build will receive our volunteer t-shirt. In addition, all attendees may choose from a large selection of direct-sow vegetable, herb, and flower seeds to use in your own gardens for just a $5 minimum donation.
We're sure that after this meeting, you'll be motivated to get out into the community and your own garden. The GardenWorks Project relies on the time and talents of those in our community who are dedicated to helping our food-insecure neighbors. Most volunteer work requires only about an hour of your time, but this hour makes a huge difference in the lives of families who are in need. Our garden builds are great opportunities for families to volunteer together. Come to our kickoff meeting to learn more. The meeting is free, but please RSVP.
All volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Information Form. Access the form here to complete it and bring it to the meeting. Copies will also be available at the meeting.
See our 2016 Garden Build Quick Links for more information about this season's work.
